Don't be disappointed because of the word "disappointed", I am also a big fan of the MT15 as well as the Yamaha. I have to say Yamaha has continuously given us brilliant engineered bikes from FZ to the R1. By the way, MT stands for Master of Torque.

After so much of hypes, the bike M15 has finally launched in India on 15 March 2019 at BIC. But what is the fact of disappointment here?

Let's discuss the points of disappointment.

At First The Price

Yamaha has fixed the price of the MT15 at a higher price point that is Rs. 1.36 Lakh ex-showroom Delhi
Yamaha has fixed the price of the MT15 at a higher price point that is Rs. 1.36 Lakh ex-showroom Delhi (it may change depending on your cities). While its own twin sister R15 V3 is very close to its price point and big thing, its bigger brother with bigger engine FZ25 (STD) we are getting at a lower price of Rs. 1.23 Lakh ex-showroom Guwahati.

What is your opinion about the price? Let us know in the comment box below.

Looks and Specifications

Honestly look wise MT15 is absolutely stunning. Its truly defines the Dark Horse, The Dark Side Of Japan. Its the naked version of Yamaha R15 V3 and we all know how good the R15 is. The MT15 is truly inspired by its flagship street fighter MT07 and MT09 so it has to be good and wild as them and it is good too. But we get disappointed, not directly but there are so many differences while we compare the Indian variant of MT15 with the international model.

While the front end of the MT15 in India remains the same as the international model which is the signature style of the MTs. Its look like Batman version of Iron Man. Funny? But it looks stunning.

What are the differences in specifications between the Indian version and the international version of MT15? Also, it has many specification differences than the R15 V3 as MT15 is the naked version of it. So, Here we will discuss 5 of these differences.

1. Engine

It shares the same 155cc liquid-cooled engine with the most favourite Yamaha R15 V3. It also produces same power of 19.3 ps at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 nm of torque at 8,500 rpm.

It shares the same 155cc liquid-cooled engine with the most favourite Yamaha R15 V3. It also produces the same power of 19.3 ps at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. So the power output is the same but the big difference here is the final gear had been changed and the race sprocket is bigger than the R15 V3 that is 52 teeth as compared to the 48 teeth. So it has initial better acceleration. But we will not get the same top speed as the R15. It will be good for highways but will be more suitable for city driving.

2. Cheap Alloy Design

On the international model, we can see the beautiful red alloys in MT15 and we are expecting it for India too. But we are getting the same alloys we have seen in the R15 V3. It is not so attractive as the international one but still looks quite good.

3. No USD forks

On the international model, we can the see the beautiful USD (Up Side Down) forks but we are not getting here in India. Its obviously for the cost cutting but have to say that telescopic forks in MT15 which is similar to the R15 V3 are better than USD one for Indian road.

Do you think you have to lose something in order to gain something? It seems true here. What do you think?

4. No Dual Chanel ABS

As dual channel ABS is present in the international model as well as in its sibling R15 V3 so we are expecting same with the Indian MT15. But we are getting only the single channel ABS here. Here I am totally disappointed.

What is your opinion about the ABS in MT15? Is Yamaha compromise with it?

5. No Aluminum Swingarm

We are not getting the aluminum swingarm as the International model as well as the R15 V3. We are getting here is only the box type swingarm same as FZ25 which looks odd with the classy looking MT15. Its also for the cost cutting but it might not gonna make much difference in the performance.

Conclusion

So MT15 is overall a good package but the price is slightly on a higher side as it is a premium 150cc segment bike. Go with the R15 V3, if you are bored or not a fan of the aggressive riding position of the R15 than with same powerful engine MT15 will be the best for you.

  1. If Yamaha has cutting costs by removing Aluminum swing arm,Dual ABS, USD forks etc. why it is still priced at higher side for a 150cc motorcycle? why MT15 cost more than other Yamaha 150 cc motorcycles in Indian market? what made MT series to be so expensive.

    1. Because you are getting obviously more power, better speedometer, attractive at the same time costlier headlight but from my point of view it still not able to fulfill the price to feature ratio.
