"Turbo" amassed a gross of 16 to 18 crore worldwide on its opening day. In Kerala alone, the film grossed 6.2 crore, making it the biggest opening for a Malayalam film in 2024 and the third-highest opening in Kerala for a Malayalam movie behind "Odiyan" and "Marrakkar". The UAE contributed 3 crore, while the rest of India added another 1.2 crore. Significant contributions also came from Karnataka (0.7 crore) and Tamil Nadu (0.3 crore).

Film Synopsis and Cast

"Turbo" tells the story of Jose (Mammootty), a village man known for his fiery personality and heart of gold. Nicknamed ‘Turbo’ for his impulsive nature, Jose’s life takes a turn when he faces a legal battle in Chennai, leading to comedic chaos. The film's antagonist, Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram, is portrayed by Kannada star Raj B. Shetty, adding a unique cross-industry collaboration. The supporting cast includes Sunil Varma as Jose’s overprotective brother and Anjana Jayaprakash as a woman caught in Jose’s well-intentioned schemes.

Audience Reception

"Turbo" witnessed a healthy 49.73% occupancy in its morning shows, which peaked at 54.53% during the night shows. Major cities in Kerala showed exceptional response, with Kochi leading at 82% occupancy, followed by Kollam (74.25%) and Kozhikode (73.50%).

The film draws inspiration from a real financial scam, adding a layer of authenticity. Writer Midhun Manuel Thomas shared that the protagonist’s predicament is based on an actual incident, which even Mammootty recognized instantly, highlighting the actor’s awareness of real-world issues.


Vysakh directed and Mammootty Kampany produced "Turbo," a film that seamlessly blends slapstick humor, action, and social commentary. The movie's strong performance on its opening day, along with its impressive cast and Mammootty's star power, positions "Turbo" as a strong contender for the top spot at the box office in the weeks to come.
